Lost in Blossom

Concept

Peach Blossom Spring — the ancient Chinese tale of a traveler who stumbles into a hidden world of endless bloom, untouched by time. This work brings that world into being. In the middle of Kyoto in deep winter, a forest appears that should not exist. Guests do not enter a decorated room. They wander into somewhere else entirely.

Design Approach

The venue’s raw concrete and industrial structure was treated not as a limitation, but as a canvas — the contrast between the hard architecture and the overwhelming bloom was intentional and essential. Flowers were massed overhead in layers of pink, orange, and green, dense enough to obscure the ceiling entirely and create the sensation of standing beneath a canopy of living trees. The installation extends vertically from floor to ceiling, with no visible boundary between where the space ends and the garden begins. The depth of winter in Kyoto made the contrast sharper: outside, bare branches and cold air. Inside, an impossible spring in full bloom. That impossibility was the point. Utopia is not a place that exists. It is a place you suddenly find yourself inside.
